Love the composition on this one Maris, reminiscent of a Rothko painting.

thanks RoganJosh. Yes, it's one of those scenes where nothing happens unless there is a conscious effort at a formal composition. Putting the big rock at the bottom is easy, it's not going anywhere, but timing the little wave at the top merited a bit of attention. A cheap theory (maybe true?) is that a breaking wave holds the eye better than one that's too soon or too late.

I fully concur with the visual semantics of the stages of breaking water. As in most things, there is always a sweet-spot to be had somewhere.

A strong appealfor me here is the dominant cohesive form of the foreground motif surrounded by the chaos of smaller stones behind, sort of re-telling the Greek mythology of chaos and cosmos.
