"Coat Hanger" At Dawn — 29.11.1997

Postby Walter Glover » 09 Dec 2020, 06:22

From the roof of the Baltronics showroom when it was in Undercliff Street. A building further down the hill had been demolished and the wrecking cranes had been removed affording a weekend with uninterrupted views to the harbour before the scaffolds and tower cranes went up. The impact of the pre-Olympic building boom is yet to come.
All perfectly still and quiet witth not a singlee ferry wake or early morning swimmer in the pool, just a single solitary dinghy with a sail that could mistaken for a speck of dust on the negative.

Not knowing Sydney all that well, is this the south side or the north side of the harbour?

Looks quite alright.

Is Baltronics still in business?

Mick.

Mick,
We are North looking South across Port Jackson.
Baltronics became Sun Studios Australia and some time later was bought by Canon. They were also in Melbourne at 95 Buckhurst St, South Melbourne.

Walter, thanks for the information. I don't think I have ever seen the Harbour bridge from that viewpoint, which I think is superb; well, this image anyway.

As for Baltronics, would have to be around 30+ years since I've darkened their doorstep in South Melbourne. I knew one of their staff, Rod, very well. We had a fantastic working relationship, almost every time I visited for my work, I would write out an order, he would help load up whatever vehicle I was in; everyone was happy.

Mick.

I posted ttthis view of Sydney Harbour Bridge about a month ago when I first fired up the scanner. I hadn't done any scanning since I moved to Canterbury in 2016. I've fine-tuned both the settings and partly forgotten techniques and so please indulge by enduring Version II.
