Highgate Lobby At Dawn

Postby Walter Glover » 22 Oct 2021, 04:27

Only one exposure possible per day ....... and six were needed. Each day the set up started well before 4:00 am setting the camera on a ground plate in the gutter and aligning the framing and setting the steeply sloping plane of focus in the dark, aided by a Dolphin torch. CLICK! and repeat for 5 days.

Shooting on film balanced for warm tungsten lighting correctly rendered the internal lobby and to rendered the external ambience as blue. Exposure was determined for the lobby balanced to the pre-dawn glow in the sky and lack of illumination and resulted in 20 minutes. Then, at the end of 20 minutes, the light outside was changed to the point of unusable and it was back home for breakfast and repeat the next morning.

Now, 25 years later, I prefer the black & white version.
