The Anthony Hordern Tree was a 109-year-old Port Jackson fig that became a landmark on the Razorback Mountain, near Picton. The tree was depicted as emblem for the department store in the Palace Emporium at Brickfield Hill with the motto, "While I LIve I'll Grow". Both tree and department store are now long gone.
Almost adjacent to the ill-fated fig was this landmark-in-waiting photographed in 2002, a gum tree growing up through the engine bay of an Austin A40 ute. Quest for a road trip might be to find out.
