Towers — with & without Crenellations

Postby Walter Glover » 19 Jan 2021, 20:43

Sydney Conservatorium Of Music with Office Tower Blocks.

On 4 July 1817, Colonial Governor Lachlan Macquarie instructed former convict, Francis Greenway to prepare plans of offices and stables. In modern times those stables morphed into the Sydney Conservatorium campus of the University pf Sydney. Greenway is better known for his Georgian designs but he also created a number of buildings in the Gothic mode. Only the Government House Stables survives of his Gothic buildings.

The Sydney Con is a fortress enclosing a fine musical space. And those walls and crenellations offer visual relief against the over-looming tower blocks. I think it is worse now with the spikey top of the recently built Deutsche Bank Place crowding out that last bit of clear air on the left.
