The broken lattice that cast the diands off light on the pile of diamond-etched paving bricks.

Pretty neat use of the 300mm to compress the distance of the headstones and your gobo; I like this effect.

A few years ago I picked up a 250mm lens for 4x5" photography, I don't think I have used my 210mm lens since and I know for certain I've used the 150mm even less. I would love to have a 300mm to do exactly as you've done here, but the reality is I doubt I'll ever get one.

Thanks Mick,

I had a 300mm Apo-Symmar as a standard lens from 10x8 and also used it for product shots on 5x4. It was the second lens I bought after a 210mm. The thing I'd recommend for field use is the Nikkor-M 300mm 1:9 which is the size of a 150mm — Copal1 and 52mm filters AND covers 8x10.

Walter, your recommendation is perfect, I have often surmised that lens would be a nice addition, however their scarcity in this country at a reasonable price, makes for a glum outlook.

Instead I have been on the lookout for a Fujinon equivalent; Fujinon C, f/8.5, 300mm in Copal 1 shutter. It also sports the 52mm filter size, so that is workable as I run two filter sizes, 52mm and 67mm. Interestingly the Fujinon is lighter than the Nikon unit, which did surprise me, 290g versus 250g.

On paper the Nikon should be the better performer, but the reality is that for what I and most other photographers do with these lenses, either would probably be better than what we can imagine they may be.

My Shen Hao wooden folder has 360mm of bellows possible, however in reality and unless you really do fiddle a bit, about 320mm is more like it. The 300mm lens is in the background as a possibility if one turns up at a price I find doable, but I'm not in a hurry as the 250mm seems to do all I wish for.

Mick,

I have mate in Bega who has a Nikkor Tele 360/500 he'd be glad to get rid of, if that takes your fancy. I borrowed it years ago and found the image circle restrictive. This is withe 500mm.

Walter a wonderful offer, however I have a Komuron 400 T, which suffers from the same fate, super small image circle.

I also have a very nice Schneider Kreuznach Tele Arton f/5.6 / 250mm unit in a repaired Compur 1 shutter. The shutter repair almost cost me as much as the lens itself, still it worked very well. This also suffers from image circle limitations, which is one of their shortcomings in general.

I've often thought of moving the Tele Arton on, just never gotten around to it. Now that I have the Fujinon f/6.3 250mm lens, which I really have taken too like a duck to water, I should move it on.

Mick.
