I by no means intend to ever really convey meaning or an idea through my photos, but for some reason this image is kind of begging to say something about a particular topic. More of a holiday snapshot than anything, but I was happy with the tonal range and strength the shadows play in this picture. Taken in Ipswich, Queensland. L

Detention is an excellent restatement of a grand technique in pictorial art: chiaroscuro. This use of bold light and dark contrasts was first perfected by none other than Leonardo da Vinci. Worked for him; works for Alex Gard.
