I reckon it's the foliage counterpointing the severe inorganic forms that lifts these pictures. Look at the second one. The leaves and twigs nicked in on the left saves the view from wall-to-wall industrial folly.

Agreed Maris,

It was indeed a deliberate inclusion. In fact, in the second pic (450mm as opposed to 210mm for the first) I did consider a portrait orientation but, as you say, there was a lack of contextual counterpoint.

Was it done to simply have a complete discontinuation of the empty space at the top of frame? For me this would make sense...
