Henri Mallard Exhibition

Yesterday a mate and I went to a free exhibition at the LIVERPOOL REGIONAL MUSEUM Cnr Congressional Drive and Hume Highway Liverpool NSW of the work of Balmain photographer, Henri Mallard, covering the building of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The prints on exhibit were done from Mallard's negatives by David Moore in 1976. Back in 1976 I purchased the book of the works - Sydney Builds A Bridge - but the print quality of the book is nowhere near the quality of the actual silver-gelatin prints on show. There is also a screening of a 40 minutes documentary film of the construction in progress.

Dressed in a three-piece suit at times Mallard clambered aloft on beams like a dog man with a 4x5 (or perhaps quarter plate) reflex camera in all kinds of weather to document the mammoth task.

It is well worth a visit and there is still time to get there:
