Survey: Photo Vests

Postby Alastair Moore » 31 Jul 2012, 11:19

As someone who's been shooting for a number of years, I've never owned a photo vest. Do you own (and wear) a photo vest? Would you potentially wear one? Do you have a matching beard?

I don't smoke cigars, and without one I feel I'd look silly in a photo vest.

I tried one on once in photo continental, hope no one saw me, I looked so bloody ridiculous! Could not believe how hot it was either. Most people look like National Geographic wannabees in one. No thanks.
ps-I do have the matching beard, but it still looked silly.

Yes, I do have a beard, but as I am now well over the Leica myth and I never have had a Cambodian scarf I only wear my photo-vest in the garden - Far more practical are the waterproof sleeveless things worn by horsey people - In some urban landscape and forest doco situations I have to wear a high-visibility vest, steel toecap boots and safety helmet, far more sexy

Back in the 70s I tried one of these largely because it was given to me as a gift by the importer at the time.

It DID distribute the weight of the kit you were carrying very evenly, but it was dorky and with larger, heavier items in the pockets it did tend to take on it's own intertia and sway about as you walked. Mine was a sleeveless number and had ventilation slits but I only used it once or twice and then turfed it.

I think their extremely practical, but wouldn't be seen dead in mine.
