Would anyone be interested in a large format "camp"?

Postby Alastair Moore » 16 Oct 2012, 19:26

I've been reading about various events that have been going on and will be going on over in the US for large format photographers. I wonder if anyone would be interested in something similar here in Australia? I haven't thought too hard about it yet but I guess the format would be something along the lines of workshops, exhibition, perhaps a competition of some description etc. over the course of a day or a weekend. Haven't thought about location or anything further than just getting an idea if this is something anyone would be interested in attending/getting involved with. Obviously not just for members of this forum, I'd try and promote it further (and perhaps get more members as a result?).

Anyway, just a thought! And if there's the slightest hint of positive feedback on the idea then I might even think a little harder about it! I'd estimate it being held sometime in March/April perhaps.

Cheers

Are we talking "camp" as in tents and roughing it, or are hot & cold water, loos, showers and breakfasts an option?

That's not the kind of camp I had planned but I guess if people want to stick tents up, they can do! I had more of a "gathering" in mind.

A large format camp? How about a large format resort! I have seen successful photographic gathering/workshop/shooting/exhibition/discussion activities at one of my favourite venues: Pygmy Possum Lodge at Charlotte Pass in the Kosciuszko National Park.

Advantages:
Between Sydney and Melbourne.
Cushy rooms and well equipped self-catering kitchen.
Ample conference and lounge space for big groups or small.
Stunning high altitude scenery just outside the windows and at points more distant.
Isolated from outside distractions.
Bathroom ensuites absolutely dark at night for film loading.
Modest accommodation rates outside of the ski season; about $200pw, less and more depending on group discounts, single supplements, and so on.

8 hours from Melbourne.

No easy/quick way to get there from the south.

That's true, somewhere like Tumut would be better.
