Um, because he's a Photographer.

photographer [fəˈtɒgrəfə]
n

(Business / Professions) a person who takes photographs.

I thought that this was pretty bloody obvious.

When any of us are meeting with Crewdson's success I guess out thought might have some bearing.

No difference in what he does than just about every movie you ever saw. It would be an impossible job to do without a crew and in a crew situation there is no point in hiring a dog and wanting top bark yourself.

He doesn't fire the shutter.

He doesn't process the film.

He has someone to do the Photoshopping, and she seems to work without his input.

He has lighting directors.

He has set designers.

He has set builders.

IMO, nothing more than an Art Director. Certainly not a photographer. Given a budget, access to a cinematographic lighting system and a fog machine, I would hazard than many people could produce equal, if not better, "stuff".

And, since when has "success" been the criteria for having opinions? Gursky's "Rhein II" is a perfect example of why "success" should be excluded from the prerequisite list.

No surprise that you don't like Gursky either.

That's right. I could never be accused of blinker-vision.

Strange how you never see sheep wearing blinkers, isn't it? Guess they don't need them when they're mindlessly following the one in front of them.
