WTB: 4x5 field camera

Postby timcooper » 10 Oct 2020, 09:50

Hi!

I am looking to buy my first 4x5 camera and I stumbled upon this forum. So far I’ve been looking at the Toyo line of cameras (45A, 45AII, 45CF and 45AX) and there are a couple for sale on eBay in Japan but I thought I’d ask on here before spending money overseas.

Ideally I want to buy a complete setup, film holders, 2 (or more lenses), camera, loupe etc but if I can’t get that then I’ll buy the pieces and assemble.

I’m located in Brisbane and am happy to pay for shipping given the current COVID restrictions on travel.

Thanks in advance,
Tim

Grab an Intrepid MkII and a cheap (f6.8 or f8) 90mm of any of the 150mm lenses.

New camera and it’ll keep 75% of its value should you not enjoy it.

Thanks for the info Lachlan. The intrepid was on my list but by the time I purchase from the UK, do the currency conversion and buy the other items from eBay I’m almost looking at the same price as the Toyo’s I mentioned. That’s said, I don’t know if Toyo is better than Intrepid but with these eBay auctions I seem to get 4 or 5 film holders and sometimes a second lens.

That said I will keep an eye out for an intrepid if they come up on eBay or FB marketplace.

Thanks again for the suggestion.

Hello all,

For what it's worth I ended up buying a Toyo 45AII with a Nikkor 150mm from Walter.

I'm very much looking forward to taking my first photos.

Tim
