Linhof Super Kardan Color SC JBL 4x5

Postby Maris » 14 Aug 2021, 09:11

Can this camera be equipped with a bag bellows making it suitable for advanced level architectural photography? The design seems to offer ample movements for image management.

This is spooky Maris,
VERY spooky!! Why do tou ask at this time? I have just purchased one, and have been chatting to our colleague, Barry Kirsten who has had one a while. I'm advised by tracking that mine. is a Matraville FedWx depot this morning awaiting imminent delivery.

To answer you question, YES balloon bellows are available. I believe Barry's has somee and I know mine does. Available online are both authentic fabric Linhof bag bellows and Chinese leather bag bellows.

In the early 1970s I had a job at Arnotts Biscuits shooting exclusively with three Linhof Kardan Bi- System 10x8s. The Linhof Super Kardan Color SC JBL 4x5 is a later little brother — the 'JBL' signifying Jubilee in 1979.

Walter, not spooky at all. When you ask Bob Salomon about serial number 8031055 do you think no one notices? My question about the bag bellows was prompted by the possibility that you will be making new architectural photographs. I've never mastered architecture so you are one of my photo-heroes in that genre.

Small world Maris,

To be perfectly honest, I couldn't see you violating your vows of fidelity to your beloved Tachiharas. The the weight would probably be an issue also.

Similarly, when I searched for details about the camera it returned a forum stream from Barry who'd been trying to flog one back about 2015. I emailed him and learned that he loved it so much that he'd decided to keep it. He has a lensboard for his with a pinhole and I'll be on a quest to prepare myself for that activity in preparation for the day restrictions are lifted.

Be assured I already have sites all over town I'm listing to go menacing, and a brand new box of Delta ready to load.

Spoiler Alert!!
The camera turned up. It is gorgeous proof of just how good those folk in Munich are at engineering porn. But it's been re-packed and it's heading back to and a full refund will be heading my way. After years of trading on Ebay it's my first dud deal.
