Large Format Photography Australia

Well it is a sad day , I have been paying $88 for a box of 50 sheets of Tmax100 film from Vanbar , looked today to place an order and it is now over $130.
Ilford film from Vanbar is even more of a rip off and Vanbar is the lest rip off company in AU so there is no where else to get it cheaper.
The only film they have that I can afford is Fomapan and believe me that is CRAP film, I would not pay $20 for a box of 100 of that stuff, I threw out that last half a box, it is so bad that I was getting better looking shots from 35mm Tmax on my Canon AE1-P.

I also cancelled my order for a V700 , I also decided not to get a 90MM lens I had my eye on, I just can not afford this anymore and have decided to give it up after 35 years.

Guess I could sell my house and get an over priced DSLR that is about 1/10th as good as LF

100 sheets of FP4+ is less than $2/sheet from Freestyle. As, too, is HP5+.

The most horrible film I have ever used and I can get it cheaper than that anyway. but truly it looks best in the rubbish bin and that's where that last half box went. I can get better results from 35mm Tmax than that crap.

Probably the best bet and FP4 is a nice film, not to keen on HP5 though

I'm interested why you think that way. What is the problem as you see it. I've seen plenty of image made (not negative scan) with Fomapan that are wonderful.

Fomapan is very grainy and it is not even a nice looking grain,it is about as sharp as a butter knife, it is also very prone to uneven development, I could not ever get a negative with no marks or defects , I reckon I get 35mm quality from a 4x5 neg in fact Tmax 100 from my AE-1P does in fact look better at any print size.

Looks like I can import Tmax100 from BH photo at around $50 per box cheaper than Vanbar.

Am very disappointment with Vanbar . They really are letting down film photographers badly , every week there is something no longer available or it is so overpriced no one in there right mind would pay for it. Its like they just do not want to deal with film photography anymore.

Ilford is pretty reasonable direct from Kennedys. I'm not sure what the minimum order is, but we get a good discount buying 6 boxes of 8x10 film at a time.

Why not buy it from B+H in New York? It takes around 5 days to arrive to a capital city in Australia

And it's cheaper. And it's cheaper to ship. $17 for shipping from the US to Darwin vs. $27 for shipping from Melbourne to Darwin. And it'll arrive quicker.

I would really, really prefer to support Vanbar but at this point in time while I'm in Darwin, I simply can't afford to.
