Size of 12x16 trays please

Postby Barry Kirsten » 25 Jun 2017, 16:33

Hi all, not a silly question, as 12x16 trays are larger in outside dimensions than that. Now that our move is over it's time to build yet another darkroom, number 10 if memory serves. Space is limited and I intend to build a sink large enough to house four 12x16 trays. So if someone could measure outside dimensions of a typical 12x16 tray for me I'd be grateful. My gut feeling is that a sink of inside measurements 500x1500mm should do it. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Shane, looks like my guess was optimistic. My sink will have to be at least 550x1600. Good job I asked first.

Barry, my Ilford trays are slightly smaller, which is why I have them. Years ago in another darkroom my sink area was quite smaller, so I went for the minimum.

My Ilford trays are 483mm by 410mm external measurements. The flat area in the Ilford trays is approximately 420mm by 350mm.

The Ilford trays don't have the Patterson external spout in one corner. Their spout is a slightly lowered corner for pouring out, compared to the Patterson spout.

Mick.

Thanks Mick. Yes I used to have a full set of 12x16 and 16x20 Ilford trays. I thought they would probably be a bit smaller, but wasn't sure. But boy, are they pricey! It'll have to be Paterson for me this time around. Thanks again.
