Thanks Steve, I really appreciate your help! I took the transformer back to JayCar and was told they don't don't refund or exchange, sounds dodgy to me but there you go. I guess I have to live with having an overkill there! The step-down transformer method seems to me a lot easier as there's no rewiring etc required so I'm keen on going down this path.

I had emailed KHB a while back about the 12v supply and got their response this morning which included the following:

In North America the LPL C6700 uses an 82 volt 85 watt lamp and does not need a power supply. In the rest of the world the LPL C6700 uses a 12 volt 100 watt lamp and does need a separate power supply. We stock that power supply because it is also used by the LPL 7700 enlargers...

Since I have the US enlarger version (assuming this as I have US mains plug and not power supply plug), I'm guessing I'm all set now and just need some new 82v/85w globes, no need for power supply's etc...

Just checking this makes sense to you? AU mains -> transformer -> US mains -> timer -> enlarger with 82v/85w lamp. No power supply needed.

Hi Nathan,

I did a little googling and found that it is common to run 82V lamps on 110V supplies. I don't know why it works (I can't get the numbers to work out, but my AC power theory is rusty). I do trust KHB though, so if that is what they say as well, then it sounds like it's right.

So yes, the setup you suggest sounds right: 240V mains -> step-down -> timer -> enlarger (82V lamp).

As with all these things, double check the power cable for any breaks or exposed wires - 110V is just as dangerous as 240V.

I've ordered a stack of the 82v 85w lamps and will keep my fingers crossed it all works as planned! I'll let you know how it all goes.

Got the globes and it all went as planned! Blew the first one and was thinking here we go again but the second one worked fine. Thanks for all the input and help!
