While I Live I'll Grow

Postby Walter Glover » 30 Dec 2020, 07:00

The Anthony Hordern Tree was a 109-year-old Port Jackson fig that became a landmark on the Razorback Mountain, near Picton. The tree was depicted as emblem for the department store in the Palace Emporium at Brickfield Hill with the motto, "While I LIve I'll Grow". Both tree and department store are now long gone.
Almost adjacent to the ill-fated fig was this landmark-in-waiting photographed in 2002, a gum tree growing up through the engine bay of an Austin A40 ute. Quest for a road trip might be to find out.

The Toyo 810M heavy metal field camera has lots of front rise and the Schneider Apo - Symmar 300 f5.6 has lots of image circle. Walter, it looks like you used plenty of both to keep that tree vertical and nice to look at ... as it should be.

The Anthony Hordern Tree is back at least in miniature. It's just off Mount Hercules Road near the Old Hume Highway, has a sign in front, and a substantial fence around it. Barring vandalism it lives and grows as promised.
